The Russian education system has many advantages and allows it to train excellent specialists in various fields. But in the era of globalization, people want to get the most versatile education possible. Many seek to find work abroad, primarily in Europe and the USA. It is quite expensive for a foreigner to get higher education in these countries. Significant costs are required for accommodation and meals. A more attractive option is to study in Cyprus, a country with a wonderful climate and excellent living conditions.

Features of the educational system

The state takes care of training good specialists who will ensure its prosperity in the future. It provides assistance in the upbringing and development of children from the age of 6 months. Babies are admitted to public or private nurseries. From 3 to 5.5-6 years old, the child attends Kindergarten and then goes to school.

Preschool education in Cyprus is offered by both public and private institutions. Regardless of the type of ownership, they provide a caring attitude towards babies and versatile early development programs. This is followed by education in primary school for 6 years and receiving a lower secondary education (gymnasium). It is necessary.

Having reached the age of 15, Cypriots and foreigners can receive upper secondary education in unified or vocational schools. After graduation, you can start working or continue your studies at universities. A bachelor's degree takes 4 years, a master's degree two more. Those who wish to engage in science enter postgraduate studies, where they acquire knowledge for another 3–6 years.

Preschool education

In Cyprus, they are very attentive to the development of babies. The methods of work are similar to those in Russia, but there are some peculiarities. Both private and public institutions often offer bilingual education, which allows children to master two languages before school. Most often it is Greek and Turkish, but maybe English too. There are also private Russian kindergartens.

There are also more stringent nutritional requirements. The staff of the institution must have a nutritionist who draws up the menu and controls the quality of food. Children spend a lot of time outdoors, doing gymnastics or physical therapy.

School system

Children are required to attend educational institutions between the ages of 6 and 15. School education is divided into three stages: primary, lower (junior) and higher (upper secondary). The system seems complicated, but it is very logical and only slightly differs from the Russian one.

Initial

The training lasts 6 years. The main subjects, in addition to mathematics, reading and writing, are humanitarian. This allows you to provide a broad outlook, maintain an interest in learning about the world. Also, a significant part of the time is devoted to learning English.

Average

Quite a lot of Russian families live in Cyprus. And they have the opportunity to teach children in their native language. This is especially true for those who have just arrived in the country and have not mastered English, Greek or Turkish. Russian schools in Cyprus operate in Limassol and Paphos.

If it is planned that the child will enter a Russian university, it makes sense to choose an educational institution at the embassy in Nicosia, accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Study in high school conducted for 6 years in 2 stages. The first is mandatory, the second is optional.

Lowest average

The next 3 years in schools provide more in-depth knowledge of languages and general education subjects. Classes begin at 8-00 or 8-30 and last until 13-14 hours 5 days a week. Holidays - from early June to the second decade of September. Children also rest for 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter. The year is divided not into 2, but into 3 semesters.

Education is offered to both Cypriots and foreigners planning to enter universities. You can choose both a public school and a private one. Pupils choose most of the subjects on their own. The quality of education is excellent - up to 90% of graduates enter higher education institutions both in Cyprus and in European countries.

Higher education

Children are usually sent to school if the parents have chosen this country for residence, and the choice of a place for further education is carried out according to other criteria. The quality of the knowledge gained, the prestige of the diploma, its recognition in other countries, the cost of living, the possibility of subsequent employment are assessed.

It is much cheaper to get higher education in Cyprus than in the UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland or France. Accommodation and food costs are also lower. But the received diploma will make a favorable impression on employers in Europe, America and Russia in the future. The training includes three stages.

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Master's degree.
  3. Postgraduate studies.

You can get a bachelor's degree in Cyprus and colleges, and then continue your education in English and American educational institutions, with which the universities of this country work closely.

Advantages and disadvantages of studying in Cyprus

It is always useful to see, get to know and understand the inhabitants of another country. Graduates gain a varied experience that will interest employers. Admission to the University of Cyprus has the following advantages:

  • the quality of education is European, and the prices are much lower;
  • wonderful climate, the opportunity not only to get an education, but also to relax at one of the world's best resorts;
  • the opportunity to improve 3 languages at once - English, Turkish, Greek;

Choosing a university is not an easy task. Sooner or later, all parents in Cyprus are puzzled by this issue in earnest. Of course, you can go to get higher education in Germany, Great Britain or America. But do not write off local universities, in favor of which more than one student has made their choice.

The main advantages of studying in Cyprus:

  • Low tuition and living costs.
  • Ability to work while studying (20 hours per week during academic weeks and 38 hours per week during vacations).
  • Opportunity to stay after graduation and work in Cyprus.
  • Possibility of transferring to 2 and 3 courses of universities in other countries.
  • Excellent attitude towards foreigners and, in particular, towards Russians.

There are currently 8 universities in Cyprus: three public and five private.

The most prestigious is the State University of Cyprus (The University of Cyprus) , the bulk of whose students are Cypriots. There are practically no foreigners at the university. This is a reflection of the state policy aimed at maintaining the prestige of national education: quite high requirements are imposed on applicants. The university has four faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Philology, the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Economics and Management. Teaching at the University of Cyprus is conducted in Greek, Turkish and English.

In addition, there are private institutes and colleges in Cyprus that offer training programs in specific areas - secretarial, business management, electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, banking, accounting, hospitality and more.

The choice of an educational institution must be approached with caution, since often colleges are in a hurry to open new programs that have not yet passed state accreditation, and it can take longer than the course itself.

The standard age of applicants for all types of universities is 18 years and older. The academic year starts in September and lasts until June. The annual educational process is divided into two semesters: autumn (September - January) and spring (February-May). There is also an optional (summer) semester (June-July). Education in Cyprus is carried out according to a rather flexible system: students can independently decide whether they will attend classes in the summer, depending on the number of subjects chosen and the intensity of the educational process.

To enter college, a student must present an IELTS certificate with a score of more than 5.5 points or a TOEFL certificate with a score of 500 points or more. Those who do not have the required number of points on the test results can take language courses right at the college.

Foreign students, high school graduates with a good command of Greek or Turkish, can be admitted to the university based on the G.C.E.

or G.C.S.E., or other equivalent exams. In this case, it is not at all necessary to know English.

Entrance exams and job competitions are held only at medical faculties and upon admission to faculties for obtaining creative specialties. You can enter the universities of Cyprus from any semester, you only need to arrive 2-3 weeks before the start of the semester and submit the necessary documents.

Among the languages of instruction in Cypriot universities, English and Greek are widely spoken, some teach in Turkish. Next in importance are French and Russian. Mostly Russian is used in tourism management courses. Today this direction is popular among Russian immigrant students.

The Cypriot Higher School consists of three separate stages:

  • bachelor degree
  • magistracy
  • graduate school

Students usually receive a bachelor's degree in 4 years of education in the first stage of higher education. Two additional years are required for a master's degree. Finally, postgraduate studies are the third stage higher education, where the specific terms of study depend on the specialization. As a rule, postgraduate students improve their knowledge for 3-6 years.

Higher education in Cyprus is paid.

Each specific university makes an accurate calculation of the cost of studying based on its needs and capabilities. On average, tuition at a state university costs 3-4 thousand euros for one academic year. Education in private colleges and universities will cost more - 5-9 thousand euros. It should be borne in mind that the amount of education expenses is not only tuition fees. Life in Cyprus, albeit not as expensive as in other countries, but still requires at least 300-500 euros per month for food, travel, clothing, communication services and more. You will also have to pay about 100 euros for health insurance. Thus, the cost of studying and living in Cyprus will cost about 12-15 thousand euros.

Cypriot educational institutions and prices

Preschool education

Small children are sent to a nursery at the age of six months. In this institution they are brought up until they reach three years of age. Then the children start going to kindergartens, where they are taught until they reach the age of six. Cypriot kindergartens adhere to the traditional system of work, but differ in their own characteristics. A special program is drawn up for each child's age. Education is conducted in two languages: English and Greek.

The work of preschool institutions is carefully organized. For children, a special, fully balanced diet is prepared, which is monitored by a professional nutritionist. Fun outdoor activities are constantly held so that the child can breathe fresh air. The employees organize physical therapy and gymnastics lessons. Most often, the kindergarten operates for twelve hours, but there are institutions with night shifts.

Secondary education in Cyprus and colleges

In general, it takes twelve years to complete secondary education. The first stage lasts from six to twelve years and has the status of passing through elementary school. In the next stage, which lasts from twelve to fifteen years, the students take a gymnasium course. These two periods are considered mandatory. Cypriots all this time have the right to study for free in public institutions. In all schools, students study the same standard curriculum.

The educational system in the country is especially attractive for its universities and colleges. There are six universities on the island - among them there are both private and public. There are quite a few advantages of obtaining higher education here:

  • High-quality teaching according to European standards, the opportunity to get a diploma that is highly quoted in Europe and the world;
  • Opportunity to obtain a double degree: first study in Cyprus, and then transfer to a partner university in the USA, Europe or the UK;
  • Affordable tuition fees, low cost of living, inexpensive food. University specialists always help students with finding housing: it can be a common residence, rental apartment, a house or an apartment - renting such housing with other students is quite inexpensive, and a full-fledged grocery basket costs even less;
  • Opportunity to work after graduation - vocational guidance departments of universities also help graduates find suitable vacancies. Citizens of the country can work and study, but such an opportunity is not yet provided to foreign students (however, there is an opinion that the legislation will soon change this rule);
  • Developed system of scholarship funds and incentives: international students who achieve significant academic success and scientific activities can count on a discount on scholarships from 30% to 100%;
  • Lack of entrance exams - it is enough to present a certificate confirming the level of knowledge of the English language, most universities accept the international TOEFL (this rule does not apply to medical and creative specialties - upon admission, mandatory exams and creative contests);
  • In private universities and institutes, you can enroll in training all year round, and not only in September-October (as in state ones);

You do not need a visa to enter the country, and it is very easy to draw up documents for long-term residence and study in the country.

Education is offered to both Cypriots and foreigners planning to enter universities. You can choose both a public school and a private one. Pupils choose most of the subjects on their own. The quality of education is excellent - up to 90% of graduates enter higher education institutions both in Cyprus and in European countries.

Higher education

The quality of the knowledge gained, the prestige of the diploma, its recognition in other countries, the cost of living, the possibility of subsequent employment are assessed.

    Thank you so much for the very useful information in the article. Everything is stated very clearly. Feels like a lot of work has been done on analyzing the eBay store

    • Thank you and other regular readers of my blog. Without you, I would not have been motivated enough to devote a lot of time to running this site. My brains are arranged like this: I like to dig deep, organize scattered data, try what no one has done before, or did not look from this angle. It is a pity that only our compatriots, because of the crisis in Russia, are by no means up to shopping on eBay. They buy on Aliexpress from China, as goods there are several times cheaper (often at the expense of quality). But online auctions eBay, Amazon, ETSY will easily give the Chinese a head start on the range of branded items, vintage items, handicrafts and various ethnic goods.

        It is your personal attitude and analysis of the topic that is valuable in your articles. Don't leave this blog, I often look here. There should be many of us. Email me I recently received an offer to teach me how to trade on Amazon and eBay. And I remembered your detailed articles about these bargaining. area I reread it all over again and concluded that the courses are a scam. I haven't bought anything on eBay myself. I am not from Russia, but from Kazakhstan (Almaty). But we, too, do not need extra spending yet. I wish you the best of luck and take care of yourself in the Asian region.

  • It's also nice that eBay's attempts to russify the interface for users from Russia and the CIS countries have begun to bear fruit. After all, the overwhelming majority of citizens of the countries of the former USSR are not strong in knowledge of foreign languages. No more than 5% of the population know English. There are more among young people. Therefore, at least the interface in Russian is a great help for online shopping on this marketplace. Ebey did not follow the path of his Chinese counterpart Aliexpress, where a machine (very clumsy and incomprehensible, sometimes causing laughter) translation of the description of goods is performed. I hope that at a more advanced stage in the development of artificial intelligence, high-quality machine translation from any language to any in a matter of seconds will become a reality. So far we have this (a profile of one of the sellers on ebay with a Russian interface, but an English-language description):
